Ivan88 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I bought 100 pound anvil off Facebook marketplace. The listing said it was Armitage mouse hole, but they weren’t sure. It has a chipped layer of paint on it. I don’t see any stamps or logos, but they might be hidden under the paint. Should I take the paint off or leave it on. any tips about figuring out what kind of anvil this is? Anvil image top Anvil image side Quote
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. Your anvil images won't open for me. Also knowing where in the world you are will help in the Id. If you have pictures on a computer you can upload them by using the paperclip at the bottom of the editor window below "Drag files here to attach, or choose files." Pictures of both sides, underneath the bottom of the base, heel and horn will also help. I would say take the paint off. If you have a 41/2 inch angle grinder with a wire brush it would do a good job without damaging the anvil. Any sanding, milling or grinding will do more harm than good so it is not recommended. Rojo Pedro Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I can't see them either. Take the paint off the top and at least a few inches on the sides. Burning paint is smelly at the least Can't wait to see some pictures. Quote
