Sam1018
I'm building my shop and I'm wondering if a clay and charcoal dust floor would work? Also what are some must haves? I want it to be functional and authentic as I'm building it in a museum village.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. I have never seen a floor made from clay & charcoal dust. Plenty of old shops had dirt or crushed gravel floors, that over the years would get a coating of either coal or charcoal dust embedded in them. I would think a floor made from clay mix with sand would work then spread the charcoal dust about where the forge and anvil are located. Our forge shop has crushed lime stone and some areas of dirt but the working areas (forge and anvil) has a lot of clinker and scale embedded in them. Maybe someone who has tried it will chime in with how well it worked. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s.~ Semper Paratus
Julianb
Hello! If you're building it in a museum, why don't you look up the way people built blacksmiths shops at the depicted time period? Which is it, btw.? Cheers! Julian
