whitewill1412
I had the day off today and had some time to light the forge. I cut up what I think was some kind of flower pot holder and used it to make some loop hooks or whatever you want to call them for holding tools around my stump. I made 8 and there are room for probably 3 more. I still have some metal left to make more. Now time is not on my side though.
Frosty
In general we call what you made, "staples. Lots of smiths have various tools hung in staples on anvil blocks. I have a steel stand and different rack hangers. The one on my side of the anvil carries my ready hammers, the one on the far side carries my tongs. However I have a tong rack on my forge for the tongs in use. I only had to grab a pair with HOT bits one time. Frosty The Lucky.
whitewill1412
Ok staples. That makes sense. Thanks Frosty
CrazyGoatLady
They look good. I made much smaller ones before. Like the kind you would use for tacking fence to a post. Pretty easy but a bit fiddly.
Frosty
The trick I use when making staples is to bend it on the parent bar and cut it to match the first leg. It helps keep the legs even. Without a jig making "matched" staples isn't as easy as it would seem. Frosty The Lucky.
whitewill1412
I did it by cutting the lengths and working both ends into a point. Then I shaped them. I probably got half of them with even sides.
swedefiddle
Good Morning, You are learning the technique of starting making Chain Link. Bend the "U", tap down on the long end until even, draw the tips on the diamond so you don't bind up on the Anvil. "Now why didn't Eye thunk a that?". There is always a comfortable way of Working/Playing, pay attention to the little stuff. Neil
arkie
whitewill1412, The best thing about your loops/staples is that you made them with round stock. Tool loops made from bar stock, for wooden handled tools, tend to chew up the handles, usually near the top 'cause folks usually just drop them in.
