Sam Falzone
Greetings all, My wife and I went to an auction today and I scored a new toy. Picked up a portable coal forge with blower for $88.00. The blower runs smooth and the tuyere is intact. The only thing it needs is a patch job on the pan. Pault17
truly a great score Aeneas. just be careful with that heart "going a mile a minute" thing. you may end up buying a Velvet Elvis for a load of bux and realize it really looks like liberace Paul
1860cooper
Used to be people knew if I was bidding on something, anything, they would want it too. So I had to make a price sheet and use parents or siblings to do the bidding. That threw the dogs off my scent.

Dave Leppo
Auctions are fun, but you do have to be careful. This past saturday, I saw a guy buy a post drill. he was excited to get it for les than $100, till he realized that he had bought the drill, and not the portable forge next to it! he walked away in disgust, and didn't even bid on the forge! ThomasPowers
I've pretty much stopped going to auctions as I realized that most of the time I would waste an entire day there and end up being outbid by someone who wanted the items I wanted but planned to use them as ornaments in their garden...bad for the blood pressure. I could spent the same time tracking down stuff by word of mouth and have a better chance of actually getting something and that at 1/2 the auction price, not to mention all the other stuff I would find along the way. At auctions I would bid aggressively up to my limit and then turn and walk away. (Actually at auctions my best deals have been when someone else buys a big jobbled together lot and I buy what I wanted from it from them for much less than the lot went for. Sometimes it happens that they wanted the same stuff and so I invite them to the next smithing meeting...
monstershed
Nice forge, I just bought one just like it but it has wheels like a bbq. My blower is a Buffalo forge. I have not used mine yet, does yours work fine with what you need?
Sam Falzone
Hi monstershed, I haven't fired it up yet. It has need of some minor repair work to the pan first. I'll post when I do my first fire. aeneas
John Martin
Sweet forge, nice score. Good Luck. I'm getting one like possibly for demos this spring. But it'll cost me $125. I could just use mine for a demo forge, once I finally switch to propane.
Dutchmancreek
I got one like that in excellent shape. I bought it at an auction for a portable forge in case I might do a demonstration, but it's been sitting in the corner of my shop for well over a year....I need to get it out and play with it.
