Hay Budden 106 and Intro

Recommended Posts

Hi, newbie here. I hope this is in the right category...

Took some photos of my anvil today and would like some opinions on how much the damage affects the value and if the serial # is correct. It appears to be 1320 or 1300 but it's hard to read. The face seems very good but there is a ding by the table. There are numbers close to the horn, ending in 3. The serial number is pictured. It's 22" long and 9.75 high; face is 3.75 wide. Hardy hole is .75 . Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything.

That is a fine looking Hay Budden. If the serial number is correct it was made in 1892 ( range is 1-3000) according to AIA. The small chip at the table is really nothing to worry about if the ring & rebound across the rest of the hardened face is good. In my area and in that shape it would go for 3-4 U.S. dollars per pound. I hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on the hardened steel face which usually does more harm than good.
