ShoreB
This came with my anvil when purchased and has since been "rediscovered" by me in my shop after some time. The fellow I bought my anvil from didnt know anything about it other than it came with the anvil when he purchased that 40 years ago in PA Dutch country. The body of the tool is rather large for the shank, which itself is too small for my anvil hardy. Is it just an over built cutoff? The angle seems wide for that. The apex is worn down but I have no idea if it was sharp at some point or not. The only making is an O or 0. Appreciate any help identifying it before I repurpose it. George N. M.
It might be the bottom half of a fuller set to make right angle folds. Think making angle iron out of flat stock. Just a SWAG, though. "By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
ThomasPowers
Looks like a cold cut hardy used for cutting cold steel bars/rods. The stem is easily shimmed with a piece of angle iron or sq tubing. I have several anvils with 1.5" hardy holes so I have an insert to turn one into a 1" hole: I took a piece of 1/8" wall sq tubing and cut it on the diagonals about 3/4" then heated and folded the flaps out and hot seated it on my anvil. Repeated with a size down tubing to get 1".
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I was thinking an anvil hardy denglestock, just a swag though.
ShoreB
Thanks for the swags gentlemen; they're more educated than mine and I appreciate them. And thanks Thomas, I figured I could shim it up but your way sounds good.
