ScotlandSmith
Hello, recently got into blacksmithing. Managed to pick up what I think is a fairly decent anvil. More than enough for me to get started on. Have managed to figure out the weight as it's in hundred weights. Coming in at 202lbs. However I'm unable to identify the make, don't recognize it and can't fully make it out. Would possibly stand out to someone who knows what they are looking at. Images Have included a couple images. Any help is appreciated.
ThomasPowers
Is this anvil in the UK? Like used cars knowing where it's at helps digging out the make.
ScotlandSmith
This was in the UK. Specifically Scotland. Edited January 22, 2022 by Mod30 Excessive quoting
ThomasPowers
Have you tried the flour trick? Sprinkle a bit of flour on the surface and brush it off leaving a bit in the indentations. That will sometimes make them easier to read. Also using a low angle light source can help. I think I've seen that stamp in Postman's book on anvils; but it's at home and I'm not. ScotlandSmith
I have never heard of this, but it makes so much sense. Currently at mother in law's but heading home. Will try this out. Im happy enough with the anvil and for the price I paid I'm over the moon. Just would love to know more of its history. Thanks for your help.
