rule4
Picked this up a while back at a flea market. Weighs 130lbs. Any ideas on who made it or how old it is?
ThomasPowers
Well a picture of the underside of the base would probably nail it down, also any numbers on the front of the foot under the horn? Flats on the feet so Peter Write or early Trenton. Stamped in pounds so not English => early Trenton? Does it have a deep hourglass indentation in the base? Have to check in Anvils in America when the various variations were made; anyone got a copy handy?
rule4
Thanks for the quick reply! Here are a few pictures of the bottom and a better close up of the markings on the anvils side.
TWISTEDWILLOW
Have you seen any numbers on the base under the horn?
rule4
I wasn’t able to make any out. Perhaps if I clean it up a little I might be able to see better. I think ThomasPowers was correct when he said Trenton… it does look very similar to others I was looking at online. I’ll clean it up tomorrow and post any new marking I find. thanks!
