PerksOfTheWilderness
I am going to build a dirt box forge and I was wondering what the dimensions of the box should be. Then hopefully when I get feedback I can build this and kickstart my blacksmithing journey. Thank you
JHCC
Welcome to IFI! Take a look at the various JABOD threads for details, but anywhere from 18" square to 30" square should be fine.
Frosty
Welcome aboard Perky, glad to have you. If you'll put your general location in the header you'll have a better chance of hooking up with members living within visiting distance. You'll learn more in a couple hours with an experienced smith than maybe days of trying to figure it out yourself. You might consider digging a trench forge in the ground so you get an idea of what you need regarding size, shape, etc. BEFORE building one. The real benefits of a JABOD over a trench are easy mobility/storage and placement, you can put it on a stand so you don't have to bend over. The thing to remember is a JABOD isn't a precision instrument it's Just A Box Of Dirt, EZ PZ and cheap. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
Would help to know how you plan to use it---do I need a two seater car or a 16 passenger van? Why can't you tell me?
