I just purchased a anvil and it’s marked Dunn& Murcott

It’s also stamped with a 97 on it and it’s painted grey

i was wondering if you could tell me anything about it and  if I should take the paint off

and maybe how 

thank you for any options and help

Welcome aboard... The only thing that anvil needs is hot steel hammered on it's hardened face. Leave the paint is the best option IMHO. Definitely do not do any grinding, milling or welding on the hardened steel face. The 97 is the weight give or take a couple of pounds which can be confirmed with a bathroom scale. Have you done a ring & rebound test? That will tell you the condition of the welded on face plate.
