Pat Masterson
Hey everyone - so I’ve got a bonus coming from work pretty soon and I’ve decided I’m definitely buying three things: a post vise, a cheap welder and an upgrade to my anvil. I currently have the smallest cheapest version of the blue anvil below. It’s Chinese made - quality control is - well it’s Chinese made. But this anvil has worked just fine for me so I’m tempted to just get the 110lb version for an incredible price. But I know the hardy hole will be out of wack and the way the pritchel hole is set basically makes it useless unless I’m using it incorrectly. So I’m really leaning towards a new really nice anvil I can be proud of. I’ve narrowed it down to these two based on 1. I really like the double horn style and of course 2. Price. The Kanca is drop forged and the TFS is ductile iron. From what I’ve read drop forged is great and ductile iron is kind of just OK-? Definitely better than regular cast iron though. I like the shape of the TFS better for sure but I’m unsure about the ductile iron. I don’t do very heavy work currently and I don’t see myself messing with anything larger than 1” square material in the future - at least not often. I’d love to know which one you guys would choose and why, thanks!
JHCC
If I were in the market, I wouldn't get either of those. My first choice would probably be the 100lb double-horn from Holland Anvil for $775. Top quality H13 steel, American made, and a really nice bunch of folks (one of whom is on IFI as "foundryguy"). Only a bit more money than the Kanca, but really good quality. ThomasPowers
I'm with JHCC, Holland! Better material than TFS and better sweet spot than the Kanca.
Chelonian
If I was looking to buy a new anvil I certainly would go with a Holland as well.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I agree with everyone, for me the Holland far and above the other two and made in the USA.
