patrickjc
Hi all, I am complete new to this and I know these forums are more for gas forges/black smithing but I couldn’t find an answer anywhere else and as a gas furnace and gas forge are very similar I thought that some people here may be able to help. I recently bought the devil forge furnace FB2MB, unboxed it, applied rigidizer, waited for it to dry and then fired it up empty and ran it hot to completely dry. All was going well. Today I was going to temper my crucibles, done the first one, no problem. Came to the second later on in the day and furnace would not get up to heat and flame was very weak even though pressure was right up. However, I did notice that the wind had picked up when I came to do the second one. My question is; Would the wind affect my propane furnace? All advice and tips would be greatly appreciated! Latticino
On first review it sounds like you may have a blocked propane orifice in your burner, but there are other possibilities. How are you determining the "pressure was right up"? Do you have a pressure gauge on your adjustable propane regulator?
Glenn
Devil forge furnace FB2MB What did devil forge say when you contacted them about your new Furnace Body?

It was at max pressure which was around 0.4mpa/57psi I checked for blockages in the burner pipe and was completely clean, which I would expect as I have only fired it up 3 times! 51 minutes ago, Glenn said: What did devil forge say when you contacted them about your new Furnace Body? I have not contacted them directly yet as I thought I would get a quicker reply on here! If all else fails I will contact them
ThomasPowers
Not in the burner pipe but in the orifice, a fairly common occurrence is to have a bit of the pipe tape/dope come free and block. Another possibility is if you have a tank with a built in free flow guard. Newer tanks often have them to shut down the gas if the flow rate might indicate that the hose has been cut. Some of them are more sensitive than others. Opening the valve slowly from fully shut off may help. I had one tank I had to close the valve and thunk it on the ground to get it to reset. IIRC I traded that tank in! In general I don't hold that advice from random strangers is better than advice from the designer/manufacturer of a product. Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Also the wind will affect a burner to some degree.
Frosty
Welcome aboard Patrick, glad to have you. If you'll put your general location in the header we won't have to keep askig and you'll have a much better chance of hooking up with members living within visiting distance. My bet is the wind, a breeze is usually enough to effect NA burners up it to wind becomes a strong possibility. On the other hand "wind" is a pretty loose term, what do you consider wind, 5mph, 10mph, 25mph? Frosty The Lucky.
