Haywood71
Curious if anyone has heard of a Hercules 400 Anvil? If so what are ya'lls thoughts on the subject. Thanks for any info.
Frazer
That looks almost like new.. It's possible it was not made by HB, but I'm sure others will be able to give you more info than I can.
ThomasPowers
Definitely do the ball bearing and ring tests BEFORE buying!
rustyanchor
Cast ... iron, steel, or something? That does not look anything like any of the HBs I have seen. AFAIK, HBs were all forged. Stranger things have appeared in the world of anvils though. TP's advice is always good advice.

Haywood71
Ball bearing test was great, not sure what the ring should be on something that size, base seems to be cast iron but I am not positive. Face looks like it has been recently resurfaced what should the ring sound like? Thanks in advance.
ThomasPowers
Free floating cast steel anvil ring will be piercing; free floating wrought iron body steel faced anvil ring should be loud and clear, Steel faced cast iron body anvil ring will be more a thwap than a TING, cast iron anvil dull thud. What percentage is "great"? We've had folks who said the rebound was great and it was around 45% and we've had folks say it was great and it was 90%. The whole idea of the ball bearing test is to have an objective number to compare with.
Haywood71
Thanks for the info ThomasPowers, the ring is not a dull thud but I will post a short video later with ballbearing and ring test. Thanks again for the info from everyone.
ThomasPowers
We don't need a video of the ball bearing test; we need a NUMBER. IT can be hard to see the number on a video why not just give it to us?
Frosty
Please NO videos! They're almost always are too shakey and swoop all over the place to be much if any use. Just do the test please, we'll trust you can estimate the rebound even if you use a ruler. Frosty The Lucky.
Haywood71
Ok will try to locate # when I get home and no videos. Got it, Thanks gentlemen.
EricNafziger
I wouldn't mind seeing a video. Did you end up looking at this? How was the rebound?
