Two4mirth
I found this in a flea market this week, but not sure if it's worth $275. Honestly, that's a big chunk of change in my household. Any thoughts on this guy? Personally, I love the look of this guy. I've been trying to find out info on this model and how it compares to the No. 2 and No. 3, but can't seem to find anything. SLAG
Mr. 2-4-, Unless you are a collector of "antiques". It's way overpriced. It is probably too small, unless you smith items larger than jewelry. And those kinds of vices, often, do not work very well. Save your money. SLAG.
Glenn
There were many variations on that tool. It is hollow and, for a blacksmith, not very useful.
George N. M.
I suspect that it is cast iron and too soft for black smithing. It does have a gadget factor but I would not pay that much even for a collection. The seller may find a fool to pay the asking price, proving the old adage about a fool and his money. "By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
TWISTEDWILLOW
It’s missing the handle on the screw which might be an indication of hard use. The spindle nut might be stripped out, personally I’ve seen those things cheaper than that and in better shape, I would pass and put the money towards something higher quality. Frosty
No use as an anvil for work heavier than straightening nails and such, I don't know if they were much of a vise either. Might be something for a collection for a much better price but not something to try using as an anvil. Save your money. Frosty The Lucky. ThomasPowers
What they have said. Those types of "combo tools" are generally found in pieces as being cast iron they do not stand up for heavy use. As for history; did you look up and read the Patent for it and see if it had any good search terms in it?
