TrevorAndersonVisualArt
Hello all, I used to have a login here but lost it and had to start over. I completed my MFA in Jewelry and Metal Art last year and wanted to share some of my work. I have been forging for about 12 years, and never really had a lot of luck bladesmithing but I have always had a fine art/sculpture background. I chose to forge pattern welded steel and weave Kevlar for my thesis portfolio which surrounds ideas of masculinity, trauma, sexuality and loss of empowerment. It’s generally conceptual work rather than functional. More images to follow. -Trevor
TrevorAndersonVisualArt
Series of clothespins entitled “Remember Not To Forget.” Was lucky enough to exhibit this piece internationally in a gallery in Rome.
Nodebt
Do you have a sense of humor? How do you feel about constructive criticism? Your work is beyond me so I thought I would ask. Clothes pins I can understand.
JHCC
Beautiful work, well photographed.
TrevorAndersonVisualArt
I wouldn’t have made it through art school without accepting constructive criticism haha. Thanks JHCC. Here are some more pieces: This was a wearable mask. A series of “adult sized” pacifiers. Making an object of comfort out of cold materials.
Nodebt
For once, I am speachless.
TrevorAndersonVisualArt
Haha well at least it’s something you haven’t seen before.
George N. M.
I'm tempted to say that the pacifiers suck but a) too obvious and b) they don't. They are unique and a little disquieting to me. I like the striped slabs that have been welded together edge to edge. "By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
TrevorAndersonVisualArt
Haha thanks George, I should have seen that one.
ThomasPowers
Somehow thoughts of a pattern welded sadiron with pattern welded tacks down the face comes to mind.
TrevorAndersonVisualArt
Interesting, I do often re-design domestic objects. Another knitted Kevlar mask with pattern welded tiles. And here’s one to make everyone uncomfortable - again conceptual art. Think art armor. “Jockstrap”
ThomasPowers
Some of your work seemed quite Dada to me---in a positive way! (My wife told me my beard was getting so long that it was making a fur lined coffee cup for me on it's own...)
TrevorAndersonVisualArt
Haha I like the reference, Dadaism is an interesting comparison. Baby rattle:

twigg
I really enjoy seeing your work. It's both technically and conceptually inspiring. Thank you for sharing!
Nodebt
That material would make a great scorpion, chicken or pterodactylus sculpture. Or even a bust of Lon Chaney as The Wolfman with black kevlar for fur (plus green glass beads for eyes)! I may have to learn some new skills and up the quality of my work.... Frosty
Good art Trevor, it evokes a number of emotional reactions in me. The pacifiers creep me out a bit, reminds me of "Howard the Duck" comics for some reason. I'm also happy to see good pattern welding, I personally like low layer count high contrast pattern welds. All in all, I officially award you a Frosty "Well Done." Frosty The Lucky.
TrevorAndersonVisualArt
Thanks Frosty! I like the low layer counts too.
