Jmmass3264
After my grandpa passed I acquired this little 10lb(or so) anvil from his workshop. Not sure the make. Very interested to see if anyone can help me determine who its by. Thanks for any help!
ThomasPowers
What country was it in? If you were trying to identify a used car you probably wouldn't guess Ford if you were in Russia or Lada if you were in the USA. If it doesn't have a steeled face then it could be any of hundreds if not thousands of small foundries. If it has a steeled face then it might be a Vulcan or II&B or a number of other companies that made steel faced cast iron larger anvils. I had an II&B that was 32 pounds; how much does that one weigh.
Jmmass3264
located in the USA. Haven't thrown it on a scale yet but seems around 10lbs Edited December 16, 2020 by Mod30 Remove @name tag
ThomasPowers
On the chipped edges, doe is show any signs of there being a change in material near the face? 10 pound bench anvils were sold by *many* different companies. You might check out the old Sears Roebuck catalogs for instance and see if you find one with the same configuration.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
We won't remember you are in the U.S. (which is a very large place) hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show general location. Also the use of the @name tag is frowned upon here.
Jmmass3264
Thanks ill put my location in. Out of curiosity what is the problem with tagging the persons name? Never seen that be an issue before
