Moosetrot
Picked this up here in Wisconsin. I buy a lot of antique tools but also buy a lot of stuff that I have no idea exactly what is is used for. The other end of this thing has been pounded a lot and has quite a bit of mushrooming. Handle is relatively thin and about 18 inches long. The edges of the ridges are still pretty sharp and the pin in the middle is intact. Thanks! Anachronist58
did they ever have six point rock drills? Could be a dressing tool as such? Robert Taylor
ThomasPowers
Yes they did. Rock drill tip sharpening swage. The pin in the middle was designed to go into the hole in the drill shaft that the water was pumped through---to keep it from closing up while "sharpening" the tip with the swage. 6 point is not as common as the 4 point "star". Not an uncommon find in old mining area blacksmith shops.
