ThomasPowers
Start looking now; I once ran across a steel roofed/framed carport that a co-worker just gave me that would be a great starter smithy.
Balbasarado
It's amazing how those deals kinda fall in your lap sometimes. I got a Lincoln arc welder with 30 ft of leads for twenty dollars a couple weeks back. Heck of a thing...on wheels too.
Frosty
The post and beam, two car garage we moved out and set up as a barn was free for the taking . . . down. It no longer met code in Anchorage and he wanted a usable garage so that one had to go. Deb and I took it apart, loaded it on my trailer, brought it home and put it up here. It made a perfect barn and hay storage for the pygmy goats. It cost a few hundred dollars, upgrading a couple things and paying the builder to help put it back up. It would've made a great little smithy if I hadn't had other plans for the shop. These things are out there, everywhere. Hail storms are great opportunities to get free (if textured) siding.
