A-606. Can it be used to safely forge an axe?

How many thousands of dollars are you willing to spend?  You could melt it and adjust the alloy content till you got a hardenable alloy.  It won't be A606 anymore; but A606 is a mild steel. Then cast your ingot and forge down to size and shape.

Remember *most* steel used in the world is not suitable for blades.

At home I generally get out my copy of the ASM handbook; it's an older one; but most of the info I need from it doesn't change very often.

Online I search on an alloy designation and look for composition and compare several sites to see if they agree. (I do weight steel companies info higher than misc posts on it.)

Some alloys I know a bit about them from prior use or research---I'd have not had to look if you had said Corten steel instead of a606.

Now the question I have is how does it do in a billet? Unfortunately the ASM handbook doesn't list that info.
