Anachronist58
My Son-in-law, a certified weld inspector came over a while back to have some welding done. He did not take kindly to my deluxe antique welding helmet. Shucks, I have been striking by brail all my life. He was not having it. Always wanted one.... CrazyGoatLady
Nice! Im not real savvy about welding helmets, but is it one of those you can actually see through? My son got himself one of those
Anachronist58
Yes indeed! An auto-darkening helmet. I can not wait to try it! Robert Taylor
CrazyGoatLady
I couldn't remember that, but very nice. The couple of times I've actually welded, he showed me the difference. Awesome gift
ThomasPowers
Christmas: I mounted a towel rack right outside our shower so I didn't drip on the floor getting to the one I used to use. (Request from SWMBO) I also installed an oak shelf running between the 8' tall bookcases that flank the french doors into the great room and put my stein collection on it leaving more shelf space for SWMBO. Then SWMBO told me I was going to the ER whether I liked it or not and stayed the 14 hours overnight in an uncomfortable chair by my side. My step daughter was also in an ER in Arkansas; we should have coordinated the visits...old family joke that it's not really a holiday until someone has been to an ER! JHCC
I always say, it's not a holiday until the chef gets burned! Lisa gave me a copy of Antonello Rizzo's "Secrets of the Forge" and intimated that she'd probably get me "The Blacksmith's Project Book" for my birthday. (I got her a knitting planner and a book about how yarn is made.)
BillyBones
For us it was its not a holiday till the fire department shows up. (3 years in a row, 1 Thanksgiving and 2 Christmas's, the FD was at the house.)

ThomasPowers
I'm blaming overindulgence at the Christmas Eve party. I'll have to be more abstentious in the future. Though I did drink a cup of hot cocoa on New Years Eve!
CrazyGoatLady
Sorry to hear you were sick. I'm glad your ok, Thomas. The flu has been bad here. Two of us in my house got it and they hovered near death it seemed like for over a week. Tommie missed 3 days of work, and he never misses work. I didn't get it thank God. ThomasPowers
We lost a member of our Church; a healthy guy, younger than I am. He had the flu and when his wife went in to get him up for the Christmas Eve service he was gone. The real flu is nasty stuff; the ER was full of people with it. CrazyGoatLady
Oh Thomas, I am truly sorry to hear that. I'll remember the family in prayers. It's hard losing someone anytime, but the holidays makes it all the harder. This flu here is nasty stuff. They were saying the vaccine isn't working this year. I just know it's affected a large number of people in our area.
ThomasPowers
Well the vaccine is based on what they GUESS the main strain of flu will be in our "flu season" early in the year based on what they are seeing in Asia so they have enough time to develop it and distribute it. Sometimes they guess wrong. Often even wrong will still help some. After reading about the Spanish Flu in 1918 and having had pneumonia a couple of times I try to get vaccinated every year anyway. (Because of the Diabetes I am in the "strongly suggested" category already.) His Funeral is tomorrow and my wife is coordinating the reception at our church afterwards. olfart
My wife gave me a hot cut chisel and a new pair of welding gloves, and a friend (not a blacksmith) gave me a 25 lbs. box of very expensive coal that he bought online.

GolFisHunt
I received a Ryobi cordless band saw, welding gloves, welding jacket, leather shop apron and an old cast iron ladle. Alas, no coal.
