Mandragoran
Hello all, I have been on the lookout for a new anvil for some time, but around my area, they have always been prohibitively expensive. I found this on Craigslist for $450, listed as a 125 lb Vulcan anvil. It came with a hardy cut off tool (not pictured). It has an arm and hammer logo on the side and a raised "10 ." underneath the horn. Is the 10 just the marking of the weight of the anvil? Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Yes the ten denotes 100 pounds more or less (usually more). That's a pretty good looking Vulcan. Just needs to be put to work. Hope you have read about not grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face, which is thin on Vulcan's. You will find that they are a quiet anvil and were advertised as a "city anvil" in some old catalogs. Most I have seen also have the last two digits of the year they were made. Chris C
Mandragoran, that's a pretty nice lookin' Vulcan. Congrats. The edges are in a lot better shape than my 50# Vulcan. As IFC said, get'er cleaned up and "put it to work". Chris
Mandragoran
I plan on it Chris! Irondragon, I have seen to not do anything to the face but hammer hot steel on it. Thank you for the information on the mark!
