Couple More Tomahawks with Curly Maple Handles this time

Recommended Posts

These are made from 4140, browned with a hardened and tempered cutting edge. The handles are curly maple stained with aqua fortis and sealed with tung oil.

Awesome u have it down pat, I'm gonna try some soon, ordered handles about ten years ago finally getting to build one soon, did you slit and drift, or use wrap method? Which do u think is easier? I have forge welded before, both mild steel to mild steel and san Mia again Nice work!!

Where did u get aqua fortis?

Bill: Aqua Fortis is another name for "Nitric Acid," small quantities are commonly available. You can buy pint,  quart, or gallon at: Fred Meyer, Walmart or one of the real Hardware stores here. Even the big box stores have it in the solvent section near paint. It's undiluted though not lab concentration so be very VERY careful, just the fumes will stain your skin like you were a 20 pack a day smoker.

Beautiful hawks Zachary.

Frosty The Lucky.

Thank you gentlemen. These were slit and drifted. For me that’s easier. I ordered my aqua fortis from a place called track of the wolf.
