killbox21
I just traded an Alaskan ulu I made for this old 2 burner forge. She said her husband was a farrier before he died if that helps. I fixed some leaks and a stuck valve. It fired right up.
Chris C
Good for you....................good trade, I'd say.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
It looks like an early Forgemaster or Hypona forge to me. One of our Farriers will probably have more ideas.
killbox21
I cleaned it up a little. I don't see any markings anywhere. It has been well used from the looks of it.
Frosty
I believe Forgemaster is a good call. A friend of mine has been using one for probable 35+ years, shoing horses and general blacksmithing. Good forges. Typically he gets it hot then shuts off one burner for general forging and demos. Good score. Nice looking ulu. Frosty The Lucky. killbox21
Thanks everyone. I also found a valley brand forge that looks similar, except that it has a door on the back. I did find another leak right where it goes into the tank, so I won't be able to see what it's really got until I replace that.
Frosty
Replace the O ring on the tank fitting and take a good look at it. People tend to over tighten them and they get distorted, especially if they don't wipe them off first. Is it the hose or regulator that's leaking? Believe it or not replacing the regulator is cheaper than the hose. Nice forge, good score. Frosty The Lucky.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
The other thing I would do is reroute the hose between the burners to behind the legs or make a sheet metal shield to protect the hose from dropped hot steel. Hot steel & rubber hose don't play well together.
killbox21
Good idea on the hose rerouting. Thanks. I may replace all these hoses,it all looks old.
Steve Shimanek
Pretty sure Valley Forge is the right call; my mentor uses those as he knows the owner. The burner tube is a good identification aspect.
killbox21
While I wait on a new regulator to arrive. I decided to clean it up some.

killbox21
Since no place around here had a 9/16 fitting for the needle valve, I had the auto parts guy make me up a hydraulic line and got it going. No leaks, let it run about 15 minutes wide open. Any downside to this? He said the hose was rated for 5100 psi. So I don't see that being an issue. Mikey98118
The forge is high orange with its whole front side wide open, which means it will reach lemon yellow once you put a baffle wall in front of it; probably high yellow with an emissive coating. Looks like you have a very nice forge there
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
The only thing I see is the hydraulic hose. If it isn't rated for propane it may deteriorate. Not sure about that, but regular air hose is bad with propane, with high pressure hydraulic hose you may be OK just keep an eye on it.
