JHCC
A nice enough little video about making frying pans, but there’s a rather unusual “treadle” hammer shown, starting around 1:50. It’s nicely made, but it seems rather inefficient.
ThomasPowers
Screw press or drop hammer would work better, (or hydraulic press).
Frosty
Put a treadle on it and he could get at least one more blow before the blank cooled. Frosty The Lucky.
JHCC
They'd be a lot stronger blows, too. Mechanical advantage, and all that.

JHCC
Well, yes, but I was thinking about the effects of leverage, momentum, etc.
Rashelle
You can see where the treadle attaches. It seems to me it's unattached so he can throw his whole body weight into it. Sort of like swinging a sledge down but not having to pick it up and not having to worry about missed blows.
