John in Oly, WA
A friend of mine just bought an anvil and was wondering what kind it was. He said he was told it was pulled out of an excavation on the Alaska highway in Fort Nelson. It looks like it was pulled out of the ground, has some heavy pitting on it. Sure has a sharp point on the horn. He's up in Canada, Vancouver Island. Paid $150 Cdn for it. That's about $112US. He didn't say what the rebound on it was. Any ideas on it? Vulcan? ThomasPowers
Vulcan would be my *guess* with the remains of the raised logo, the 10 cast proud, the low drop from face to table.
John in Oly, WA
Thanks Thomas. Looking at it, except for the torch cut on the edge of the face, it doesn't look like it's been used much. Just buried in the ground for a while.
ThomasPowers
Maybe someone was using it for weight on an implement and it bounced off...
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
I second the Vulcan ID, although most I have seen do not have such a sharp point on the horn but that could be they have been hammered flat.
NoName
Hello John, May want to look at a Southern Crescent logo. Not much left of it.... N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
John in Oly, WA
You're right NoName, it does look like the Southern Crescent logo. And then it looks like the Southern Crescent anvil has about the same rep as the Vulcan, maybe a little lower.
