ausfire
Friends out west having a clean up of the shed. Old blacksmith shop had these 'things' lying around. Makes you *sigh* doesn't it?
ThomasPowers
I've seen it go both ways; stuff like that scrapped because folks don't understand it. I've also seen folks that think it must be made from gold under all that rust. I remember on auction where a fellow paid top dollar for a mint condition anvil for one that had a crack from the hardy hole to the edge and other evident signs of abuse. He then was paying US$30-40 a piece (early 1990's $$) for some swages that didn't fit that anvil. I asked him about it and he just was going to paint them black and put them by his fireplace.... ausfire
This old forge and blower are there too. Seen a bit of use, but blower still turns OK. I like the water cooled set up.
BIGGUNDOCTOR
The anvil looks in good shape. Is that a Champion 400 blower?
ausfire
Yes, indeed; a Champion 400 blower and working well. The air duct looks like a bit of old gal down pipe. Some homemade 'make-do' around there. When I next rebuild the work forge I would like to use a similar water cooled tuyere set up like that. We have all the required pieces to do it. BIGGUNDOCTOR
I would think that a Champion blower would be rare in OZ.
ausfire
No way. They are probably the ones we see most. I have a few. We also see the American 'Buffalo Blowers' a lot - in various sizes. There is an Australian made blower called a RAPCO (Sydney). The one I use on the forge every day is a RAPCO, and topped up with oil occasionally, it performs very well. BIGGUNDOCTOR
Interesting, I would have thought that British companies would have had that market tied up, if not a local one due to your location.
ThomasPowers
I always figured that if they didn't post a location they were offering free international shipping! This is the World Wide Web after all---(what the www stands for in the address.)
