I’m green just starting out. Building a propane gas forge, can I buy any ceramic fiber insulation locally? I live an hr above Atlanta.

I don't know about your location, but, living in Alabama (close to AL/GA border, abt 100 miles SE of ATL), I don't care WHAT "specialty" supplies/materials I might happen to need for any given project/hobby, I have to either buy online or drive at LEAST a hundred miles to get it (which I "have" done when ordering a lot of weight to avoid gargantuan shipping costs...cheaper to drive sometimes!).

"Frustrating" is putting it mildly.

As far as the insulation goes, check with the companies near you that do HVAC work. It's used in duct work and sometimes they will give you the cut off ends & pieces or offer to buy what you need. If you have anyone who deals in pottery and Kilns they usually have it in stock.

is there anywhere in Birmingham to get the supplies needed? I’m originally from there and that being the iron city and all with sloss furnace and everything else that is there I’m headed to Alabama this weekend and could hopefully get it there
