If I were making that into a sculpture, I would try to give it a very refined and sophisticated base, something that would contrast with the twisted and rusted metal, such as a carved wooden base à la Henry Moore or a cube of polished white marble. As for old bridges being removed, not only do you have the liability issues mentioned above, but the steel is almost always hauled away and sold for scrap.
