Frosty Posted September 11, 2018 Share Posted September 11, 2018 I suppose this should be in the solid fuel forge section. This looks like a version of the "direct method" for making charcoal. Direct method is the least efficient for wood in, charcoal out. It'd be semi direct if you put a sealed lid on it once it got going, Kon tiki might be semi direct, but I wasn't going to watch a half hour video of a fire in a cone. Lol From what I've read, as soon as one wood layer begins to ash, you then add another layer of wood. Until the cone is full. Seemed like it was a rather solid idea as far as the Japanese went?
