I made my first thing!

Recommended Posts

After months of wanting to start, I made my first thing a hook. Using a torch, anvil, hammer, pliers and a drill press. And yes it’s the cheap 55lbs anvil from Harbor Freight, but it work for now.

You did a fine job on the hook.  Is that a horseshoe nail hook?

Don't worry, many of us started out with what we call ASO (Anvil Shaped Objects) or things other than the London style anvil.  Get busy making those little hooks and sell them each for $1.00.  Do 300 of them and you have money to start shopping for a better anvil and forge :D

Be proud of what you accomplished though.  How many in your area can say they've forged a steel hook?  Not many probably.  So that puts you in a whole different category.  Keep it up.

Using a torch for heat may get expensive quick. If you can try building a small charcoal forge.

Good start, keep it up.
