ThomasPowers
Early American Andirons, and Other Fireplace Accessories by Henry Kauffman and Quentin Bowers Written as a volume in Nelson's Collector Books series. It covers late 17th century, 18th century and early 19th century examples. A bit pedantic and dry prose; goes into details of construction methods---generally a mix of wrought iron, wrought iron and brass or a few in cast iron. Not a replacement for Sonn's "Early American Wrought Iron" . Probably the best part of it is excerpts from estate inventories and ads of various makers of Andirons, Including several from Mary Jackson who took over the business on the death of her husband Jonathan. Photos are clean and against white backgrounds to clearly show details. Mainly high end work rather than kitchen ware.
