MaC1206 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I am a freshman at Syracuse University, starting classes this summer. I am looking for anyone who could use a hand, I have been smithing for a few months and have some experience but am looking to learn; and I can’t bring my forge, anvil, tools, etc. to college with me. email xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx STOP SPAMMING posting the same thing all over is spamming Quote
ThomasPowers Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I had a student who did. Kept scrap steel under his bed and had a gas forge hidden in an old gas grill shell out back of the dorm chained to the fence like other gas grills. The part you might not be able to get away with is that he removed his desk and replaced it with a work bench that fit the indentation---with a postvise. Got a degree in Metallurgy and shows up here from time to time... Quote
Charles R. Stevens Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 “We” can show you how to build a workable set up that fits a cuple of buckets. Quote
Latticino Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Switch schools to RIT in Rochester, they have a metals program with a large gas forge, anvils, power hammer, belt grinder... Or check in with the NYSDB group in that area (Mohawk region): http://www.nysdb.org/ . They meet monthly and perhaps someone will be interested in working with you. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Check with the local SCA group at the college and ask if anyone is smithing or armour making locally. Quote
Latticino Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 F. Page Steinhardt is local to that area, a member of the SCA, bladesmith, FIF alumni, RIT alumni, and a member of NYSDB. He should be a good resource also. Quote
