JHCC Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I've been thinking about a grinder build for a while, but had always been put off by the cost of a VFD. I just got a line on an inexpensive speed control for DC motors (a used Leeson Speedmaster 174308, for what it's worth), and I was wondering how suitable this would be and whether a total know-nothing (at least when it comes to electronics) would be able to get this set up with minimal risk of burning the house down. Or should I just salvage a treadmill with its speed control? Quote
BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 A treadmill is already wired, but from what I have read the motor needs a housing to keep all of the grit out of it. DC motors can be quite expensive, and a lot of the ones we have at work are 90VDC Quote
