Jclonts82 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Its in my grandfathers ‘stuff’ yard (2 acres of ‘stuff’) it looks like the oil well pumps. Of course I didnt take a picture of the placard... but it did say 5900 lbs torque at such and such rpm. Any ideas? It would be cool to repurpose it and make some sorta tool from it, I just cant decide what https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=24&v=DWnCwj8JWaE Quote
Daswulf Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 That is really cool. Dont know if it could work as some kind of hammer. Never know. I'd sure try. Quote
BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 The third hand to pump a set of bellows, speed it up and make a small guided helve hammer, pump some oil/water, big butter churn, have it wave a fan - it's getting hot in the desert, moving rifle/pistol target....... Quote
TwistedCustoms Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 I like it! It would make an interesting bellows pump, if a tad overkill! Might be able to rig it up as a light weight punch press. Quote
anvil Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 It's called a pump Jack or a walking beam. You add weight to the "basket" at the other end from your hand. For a well pump, hook the sucker rod to the end you are pushing and balance the weight of the pumped water by adding weight to the basket. Then you only have to overcome friction to pump water. Leave it to the oil well folks to figure the most efficient way to pump a liquid. You can hook it up to anything and apply the principal's above to balance the load. I've a small one and pumped my water for years with it. It pumps from 150' deep to ~150' height above the jack and gives me 20 psi household water pressure. All on a 1/4 hp electric motor. Mine is orange and one year when the Denver broncos were in the super bowl I decked it out with a horse head, tail and hind legs... Looked cool with tail flying and hind feet kicking out!!! Quote
