Looking for any additional info on a couple of vises I just got

Got these today at a sale.

First up is a foot vise.  Patent date April 28, 1898  Manufactured by H J Boyce, Fayette, Ohio.  5-inch jaws

Second Vise is  post vise, maybe.  The leg is missing, but there is a threaded hole  into the vise where the leg would go.  Not sure if it may have been bolted to something rather than having a post.  One side has “6LV2” on one leg and “6LV5” and the other side has “JB” on both legs.  It has 6-inch jaws.

Just trying to learn more about them.  Want to both to good use.  Thanks in advance for any information.

Check www.pto.gov and put in the patent issue date in the issue date list. Or type in the patent number for the patent specification. Then check out that patent on the site.

Google and some other search engines will have the complete document, whereas the P.T.O.  site will have the only the first page and claims of patents issued before about the year 1973.

Many tools (& other items) will have the patent number on the item.

SLAG.
