garyc1955
Going to build a 40 pound Kinyon style hammer. Will my 6 inch slab be ok without reinforcement? I think I will put some kind of rubber or wood insulator under it. I'm a hobbyist and this hammer won't see a lot of heavy work. I do have a six to one ratio on the hammer and anvil.I have a two and one half by ten inch cylinder, reckon a five horse compressor will be sufficient? Gary. Jspool
Gary, I’ve operated my 60lb Kinyon on a 4” slab w/o a buffer in place for 2 years with no problems at all. Now I don’ know how yours is consructed, but my hammer has a 1.5” thick plate as its base.

Now I run a 150lb Iron Kiss on a two stage 5hp compressor so you will be fine at 5hp (15-18 cfm) compressor.
