fishnaked
I've seen a few photos now of large log chains wrapped around the base of anvils. Is there a purpose for this?
ThomasPowers
Helps to kill the ring and so keep you from paying thousands of dollars for hear aids when you get older. So you shouldn't be seeing them on Fishers and Vulcans which are naturally quiet anvils. There are other methods of killing the ring so not all anvils will be chained, (and some folks just don't get that sound damage is cumulative or expect to die young before the chickens come home to roost...) fishnaked
Thanks! I have some extra log chains laying around. Now I know what to do with them.
Glenn
The idea is to absorb the vibrations created by the anvil acting as a tuning fork, and killing the ring. You only need a couple of wraps of light weight chain. Search the site for ideas on how to kill the ring of an anvil. Many discussions are in the archive.
