The Athens Forge is a member of the Alabama Forge Council. We meet on the 4th Saturday of the month at 10AM in Athens, Alabama. Visitors are always welcome. For more info see our website, athensforge.com, or on FB at Athens Forge. The demonstrators for 2018 are as follows...

Jan. 27th Al Stephens,  AL,  Feb. 24th Clay Spencer, AL,  Mar.24th Calvin Garland, TN,  April 28th Mark Haddix, AL, May 26th Steve Williamson,  TN,  June 23th Raymond Head, AL

July 28th Ron Nichols, TN,  August 25th Bob Taylor, AL,  September 22ed George Ezell, AL,  Oct. 27th Josh Hill, GA,  Nov. 24th TBD,  Dec. 22ed Date TBD. 

The demonstrations, are normally followed by open forge time for AFC members.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge council will meet Sat. Jan.27th at 10AM, in Athens Alabama. Al Stephens will demonstrate  forging a set of scrolling pliers, on a stump anvil. Open forge time will follow for AFC member.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council will meet Sat. Feb. 24th at 10AM. Clay Spencer will be the demonstrator, and will make a rail road spike door knocker, a rope twist tool, a V block, and a S-7 hot cut. Clay has been smithing a LONG time. He's served on the ABANA board, is a life time AFC member, and been editor of the "Bits" newsletter. He teaches anywhere/everywhere including the Campbell Folk School. He is also well know for both treadle hammer, and tire hammer workshops. He is a wealth of information, and knowledge.  Open forge time for AFC members will follow. There will be an Iron in the Hat drawing.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council will meet Sat. March 24th at 10 AM. Calvin Garland from TN. will be the demonstrator, and will be forging a hand axe with a split and welded cutting edge.  Calvin will doing everything by hand with the help of a striker. Open forge time will follow for AFC members.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council will meet Sat. April 28 at 10AM. Mark Haddix, the President of the AFC will be the demonstrator. Mark will be forging steel magnolia flowers. There will be an Iron in the Hat drawing, that will include several tools that Clay Spencer did not finish the day of his demo. and the hatchet head that Clavin Garland forged last month.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council will meet Sat. May 26 at 10AM.  Steve Williamson from Columbia, TN will be demonstrating box joint pliers.  If you've never seen this done, it is an interesting and not often seen way of forging tong and plier joints.

The Athens Forge, a member of the AFC, will meet Sat. June 23 at 10AM. Our demonstrator will be Raymond Head of Wetumka, AL. Raymond is past Pres. of the AFC, the AFC Conference Chairman, an accomplished smith , and builder of tire hammers. He will be forging a tulip candleholder from a single piece of 5 1/2" long x 1" dia. stock.( you might want to bring ear plugs.) There will be an Iron In The Hat drawing at lunchtime.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council, will meet Sat. July 28, 2018 at 10AM Our demonstrator for the Day will be Ron Nichols from TN.

Ron, an accomplished smith, and teacher, will be producing a Francis Whitaker style candle holder.  There will be an Iron In The Hat drawing at lunch.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council will meet Sat. Aug. 25 at 9AM.   Please Note meeting time change! 

Our demonstrator for the day will be Robert Taylor from Birmingham, AL. He will being doing a copper weather vane. Robert has been working with copper a long time and is an excellent instructor. He has taught many workshops for local groups, (several for the Athens Forge) and classes at J.C. Campbell Folk School. If you have questions about working with copper, this is the meeting to come to.

There will be tailgating before/during/after the meeting. A 100 lbs. Vulcan,  will be for sale $400.

There will be an Iron in the Hat drawing.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council will meet Sat. Sept. 22 at 9 AM. Please note meeting start time change. 

Our demonstrator for the day will be Athens Forge member George Ezell.  George will be forging a billet and a blade or two from that billet. You can see examples of his work at Relic Forge on FB. If you have questions about a Seax style knife, George is the one to come and ask. 

One never knows what will be at the meetings to buy, sell, or trade.

Starting with the next meeting of Athens Forge, Oct. 27, we are going to try to "live stream" the meeting the meeting on YouTube. Please visit the Athens Forge channel on YouTube for an introduction video now. There will be further information concerning the meeting posted on IFI on 10/20.

The Athens Forge a member of the AFC will hold it's next meeting Sat. Oct. 27, 2018, starting at 9AM. CST ,  -6GMT.

Josh Hill from Georgia will demonstrate and will be forging a rounding hammer with the help of a striker.

Josh has been forging about 5 years, and enjoys doing Gothic style work, locksmithing, and tool making. He will be teaching a Triangle Gothic Padlock, with Ernie Dorrill at the JC Campbell Folk School Jan.27-Feb.2, 2019. He will samples of some of his locks for display.

In addition to the normal activities, this demo will be live streamed at, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkeuLsue9sdNS4CJm7164jQ This will be a first for the Athens Forge and we hope to receive feedback about the event.

There will be an Iron In The Hat Drawing.

The Athens Forge, a member of the Alabama Forge Council, will meet Saturday November 24, 2018 at 9AM. There is no demonstration planed, this meeting will be open forge time for AFC members. So bring your project, ideas, problems, and let us all help. If we can't come up with an answer, we'll make something up!

There will be an iron in the hat, that will include the hammer that Josh Hill made at the Oct. meeting.

There is no demonstration planned, but open forge time will be available for AFC members to finish up those last minute  gifts.
