jtj4times
Does anyone know anything about screw type rail road spikes as well as rail road clips??
Charles R. Stevens
Sleeper clips are a nice medium carbon steel. Threads are for taking them out (told to my dad buy his best friends dad ad he drove screws in with a hammer)
jtj4times
Thanks. I'm new to this and finding out there is a lot to know....
Reeltree
Ru referring to these. Am trying to flag down my track maintenance buddy as he rides by to inquire about my digging into this pile a few miles away
BIGGUNDOCTOR
I used the tie plates flipped upside down for a floor in in outdoor smithy. Lay them like tiles , then sweep sand over them to fill the spaces inbetween.
ThomasPowers
Just a public service reminder that removing stuff from the RR rightaway is a felony in the USA; so be sure you get permission in writing!
Reeltree
I use the plates lagged to the joints at the post on band boards on shed roofs and out buildings. Also to put under the foot of equipment jacks

True. I’m trying to get hold of the local CSX people about some leftovers from recent track repairs.
jtj4times
friend gave me some of the clips pictured by real tree.....the screw spike are different. Are the clips good for knifes? it has an HC095 stamped in it
ThomasPowers
clips are generally 50-60 points carbon so a good upper end medium carbon steel---about *double* the carbon content of a HC spike. So does it make a good knife? Depends on what YOU consider a good knife!---But definitely MUCH better than a RR spike KSO!
jtj4times
thanks Thomas. Im new and started collect some supplies and was hoping this might be good to start with. I say knife with high hopes but have a lot to learn before attempt that leap..just want something to learn with so i can develop a good understand of how steel moves and how to move it. ThomasPowers
The general consensus is that when you are pounding the RR clips is that steel doesn't move....
