ausfire
Talking and cranking is also dangerous to stock! It certainly is. I think every time I have burnt steel it's because I have been talking to visitors. Good advice would be talk or crank but not both!
ThomasPowers
Having a good hand crank is worlds different than having a poor one. My usual test is that it should make 3 complete turns of the handle when you let go at a normal cranking speed. Also large blowers are usually better than small ones where you have to crank constantly at speed to do any work on larger stock.
JWbigpraire
I managed to fire up the forge again today. I made two more hooks both from old pony shoes. I straightened them then bent them the other way.

JWbigpraire
Yeah I have been meaning to get one for a couple years but somehow I can’t remember when I get to a store. I always just use a rope and a board. This year I decided to make something after using the rope/ board trick this year
ThomasPowers
I forged a set of sliding hooks for a friend's butchering rack. He does everything from Oryx, Elk, Mule, Antelope,...Made them stainless so he can remove them and toss them in the dishwasher.
JWbigpraire
That’s great idea. I didn’t even think of stainless. Thanks Thomas
