genesaika
So, let's start by saying that this will come later in my blacksmithing career, buy I want to round up some materials now. I have a near endless supply of used cable from cranes. Generally ranging from 3/4 -1 1/2 inches. When talking to my source he brought up an interesting point that I hadn't thought about... Should it be greased or not? Would it matter? They supply doesn't change, but what I get would so it's important.
ThomasPowers
Grease is easily dealt with compared to other methods of preventing cable from corroding; some of them quite toxic to deal with.
Frosty
Grease is no thing but find out is it has stress strands and what they are. Manila or cotton will just burn out, no thing but plastic stress strands burn nasty. Crane cable is typically high end of medium carbon. Frosty The Lucky.
