David Matthews Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Picked this up at a yardsale in northwest GA for 20 bucks weighs 100.8 lbs all markings are worn off except a square on the side but can't make anything out in it. The body seems like cast iron with a steel plate on top. Quote
Frosty Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Welcome aboard David, glad to have you. If you'll put your general location in the header you might be surprised how many of the Iforge gang live within visiting distance. There are guys here who are a LOT better at IDing anvils from a few pics. A look at the side so we can see the face plate and body boundary will help as will a pic of the "square" and a shot of the bottom. Regardless of it's brand, age, composition, it's a killer deal for a $20.00. The hardy hole will support bottom tools if the face is too soft to forge on. So what're your plans for it? Going to take up the craft I hope. We'll be more than happy to help get you hooked on this addictively fun sport of playing with fire and hitting things with hammers. It's so much fun it should be illegal. REALLY it IS! Frosty The Lucky. Quote
David Matthews Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 This is the side view. And I am looking forward to learning to use it. The top seems pretty hard a 1 inch ball bearing bounced 9 inches from a 10 inch drop. Quote
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Outstanding find, she looks ready to go to work. If you haven't already heard (read) any type of grinding on it will harm such a beautiful specimen and there is a nice radius on the edges already. Quote
Lionel h Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 You did great on this one ! great find , have fun using it . Quote
