Frosty that's an idea I would have never thought of on my own. I was thinking there were only two options being, welding or tongs. Up till Little Blacksmith made me a set of tongs I had avoided even the thought of making them yet alone using them. My only problem in thought was; big piece of steel and no welder.

i would suggest you may not be ready to upset a 2" square untile hi can set down, draw, punch and rivit.

I'm with Mr. Stevens. I think you would maybe get frustrated and possibly even ruin the Leicester of steel, which seems to be hard to come by. First get a feel of like how 1/2" square feels under the hammer and multiply that by 4!

By 64, little blacksmith, 4" is 64 times the mass of 1/2". 

but I would like to see you start pounding steel, start making things, learn to make the other tools before you take on the anvil.

You see, I wondered if I was wrong, I thought to my self " it feels a lot tougher than just four times of half inch!". Thank you for the correction.

Yep, 1" is 4x. 2x as thick and 2x as wide = 4x the steel, so 8x the thickness and 8 times as wide is...

but the big stuf stays hot longer...
