I saw this video in the suggested feed for a few days, but after a fellow board member shared on another site, I was handily impressed. If you haven't seen this, it is quite the job!

You've got to wonder, what in the world did they do when they were "way out yonder" crossing plains and broke a spoke.

You put on the spare and brought the broken one to the wheelwright's shop.

Now if you read the more usual conestoga trips, there are descriptions of making buffalo chip fires and reworking a wheel in situ.  Or having to abandon a wagon if there was too much damage and no repair parts.
