CrazyGoatLady
What about the bear oil? Nice work. Did it go faster/ easier/ better with just using one tool?
Jasent
It was pretty quick, doing another today the same way. The bear oil works great. Season all my own stuff with it! Also makes the best hash browns
CrazyGoatLady
Mmm... makes me hungry! You're a hammer making machine.
Jasent
Thank you cgl. Bear oil has many uses. Was used like money at one point. Not so common anymore. Thinking about bear makes me hungry for huckleberry pie. Only had a hour in the shop so I didn’t get to finish the hammer. Hopefully tomorrow I can get it done and start another using a different method
Randy Griffin
Do you render your own bear oil?

I’m surprised, been told I will put hair on your chest ,Bear oil does have many uses still applicable today: it makes an excellent leather conditioner, it can be substituted for lard in nearly any recipe especially for pastries, it makes a great lamp oil (smokeless), can be used as a lubricant for metal (including firearms), it can be used to make soaps, and it can be used to treat skin issues such as: dry skin, chapped skin and as a salve alone or as a base, and makes great pemmican! Jasent
Been working on hammers this week and was really getting sick of my striking anvil being too short. So a made a new stand for it. It’s louder and I’ll probably fill the legs with sand and oil and cap them off. It’s perfect hight now! Tested with a 2x4 and 4x4. Still have to add a few touches like a swinging tool tray and such. Jasent
Also did a texturing die and hammer today. I’m thinking the hammer needs a bit more texture
Jasent
Not bad for my first attempt. Need to remember not to touch the cheeks till I’m done drifting. Drift held up well though the tip will need dressed This S7 is tough stuff! Have about 42” left of this 1 3/8” round
CrazyGoatLady
That's a great looking eye. You're building up quite the collection of hammers you've forged. I like the tools you've got posted above. Your really cranking out good stuff.
Jasent
Thank you cgl. I’m having a blast. The new stand is so nice to work on! Idk why I put up with the short log for so long! Now if the power would just come back on I could dress this hammer and give it a good test
CrazyGoatLady
I'll do that sometimes and think, why didn't you do that before?! But now that it's done, I'm sure you'll be turning them out even faster. Love seeing your updates
