JHCC
Please say a prayer on the passing of my old friend Thomas Eugene Nichols, 12/22/1920 - 5/19/2017. Tom served in World War II and was present for the liberation of one of the lesser-known concentration camps (which one, I can't recall). A devout Roman Catholic, he was a professional church organist for most of his life. Tom was preceded in death some months ago by Gregory Dudack, his husband of over sixty years and my daughter's godfather. Tom and Greg's cavernous apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side was always filled with people, music, laughter, and (until Greg's battle with lung cancer fifteen years ago) a dense fug of stale cigarette smoke. He was no blacksmith, but he was one heck of a curmudgeon. Y'all would have loved him. Memory eternal.
