Hello all,

I'm just starting out and could use a little assistance.

I just got my first anvil. A Trenton z 125 serial number is 19128.

Does anyone know when this was made??

I would also appreciate some buying tips on a gas forge.

my budget is $1000.

Thanks so much!

Welcome aboard... It looks like your 125 pound Trenton was made in 1900 serial number range 12,001-20,000. If I were going to buy a propane forge, my choice would be a Chili 2 burner Habanero in your price range. How about some pictures of your Trenton, we love pictures. I hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face.

Not providing any information on how it will be used makes it difficult to make a suggestion on what forge(s) you should look into.  It's much like me asking you for tips on buying a vehicle without telling you if it needs to haul gravel, or transport 50 kids, or be a good commuter car, or cross open water.  Hard to give good advice without information on how it will be used.  We can guess but can't guarantee to guess correctly!

Without knowing what country it is in; makes it hard to price it---you want it Euros or Australian, Canadian, Singapore,... dollars?  Over 100 countries participate here on the World Wide Web and location makes a difference!  (Anvils are cheaper in the UK than Australia for instance.)

Without knowing what condition it's in it's hard to say if it's worth scrap rate or at the upper levels of anvil prices.

If I asked you to price a used Ford car with 2 doors could you?  Is it totaled? Is it a Pinto or a GT Supercar?

He came across a man cleaning out a garage and the anvil was in the ally. He asked the man if he could have it, the man laughingly told him if he could take it then it was his.   Dad went home and got his little red wagon, he tipped the wagon on its side next to the anvil and rolled it and the anvil back on to the wheels.  This was in 1950 and he has now passed it on to me.  It is a Trenton 125 with a serial number of A 63734, can any one tell me a little more about it.

So I scored a Trenton anvil the other day in exchange for moving a trailer for someone. Im pretty sure that I win the prize for the oldest Trenton in this thread. I have a serial number of A10621IMG_20220621_021548375.thumb.jpg.19e477be5e6b206fde7c93e54e464a10.jpgIMG_20220621_021454933.thumb.jpg.c3a4e1af1dd88918953815e7a6aee0c0.jpgIMG_20220621_021519830.thumb.jpg.549745951b096dc3dbc9d28b76e9b939.jpg, maker initial M, no weight stamp. I havent weighed it yet but its a bit more than I can manage by my self. If someone can confirm the date for me I would greatly appreciate it.

Welcome from the Ozark mountains. I would say you did good, unless you had to move the trailer to New Jersey.:D Have you done a ring & rebound test on the hardened face?

Thanks for your response.  No I only had to move it 20 miles or so. It did take 2 full days to get it done though. It was a big trailer. No I havent had a chance to do any tests on it yet. I didnt think it had any markings on it much less a name untill after a lot of work with a wire wheel and some rust remover.

Welcome aboard Mike, glad to have you. May we see a few pics of the whole anvil please?

I have relatives living on Camano Island. I'd better PM you to see if some of the local clans are still as wild as back when.
