Frosty
Maybe next time you should drop a few worms or a slug in his pocket while he's adorning your image for photos. Frosty The Lucky.
58er
Nah. Small price to pay to make a good friend happy.
Frosty
Oh yeah, beats having to hire an operator and piece of equipment for sure. Still you haven't lived till you see the look on someone's face when they reach for their car keys and find a few night crawlers. Sometimes they even dance and yodel! It's good to have friends. 58er
Started on some outside decorations for the shop. Just got around to posting. Also added some at end of road so people had a way to find shop easier
Hans Richter
Great sculptures, but ensure good grounding for security. In the past, for example, a sculpture was stolen in the driveway of my studio .
Daswulf
Beautiful and inspirational work 58er! Is the dragonfly tail forged pipe? Hans, sorry to hear that. That would be very upsetting.
58er
Thanks guys. Base Alone for sculpture at road is 400# hopefully that keeps thieves at bay. yes. Tail is forged pipe. The head and thorax are inflated metal so it really doesn’t weigh that much.
58er
Haven’t posted in a while, pretty much smithing full time now. Added new belt sander and mega forge for giant inflations. hopefully another addition in the works. Also added giant spider outside door, just for fun. Will post pics of sander
Irondragon ForgeClay Works
Holy cow... I bet it takes a 500 gal propane tank to feed that mega forge. Would love to see it running, next time you fire it up.
Frosty
Good grief man, are you breeding and raising T burners!? I'd like to see a pic of that baby running. Love your work, it's hard to get the scale without something suitable in the pics. You and the dragon fly or the distant shot of the giant spider on the shop. Thanks for the look see. ThomasPowers
Seems like smiths that tend to do Sculptural work with propane tend to have a bemouth of a forge tucked away somewhere. The one I heated my 2.5" sq stock in you could hardly find it in there---he used a blown ribbon burner and heated it to welding temps to work. I saw a forge at NMABA meeting that had 14 burners on it for example. Me, I'll dig a hole and make a ground forge when I need the extra room! anvil
Inspirational. And best of all, it looks like you are having a great time doing it. Can't get any better than that.
Paul TIKI
That is some astonishing work. Absolutely beautiful. congrats on the shop.
58er
Thanks guys... the massive burner forge works far better than a ground for for inflating metal. I’ve tried it. Each burner has its own valve allowing me to isolate and zone in on shapes. this forge has strictly been used to inflate shapes larger than my small forged will handle. I’ve inflated shapes up to 46” x 46” without a hitch.
Deimos
Very nice shop, but a forge this big needs a name.
ThomasPowers
Surtr comes to mind as an appropriate name.
Deimos
Nice, a little bit of mythology goes a long way, I was thinking about Fafnir. But then you would need to paint the shop gold.
58er
I’m thinking something like Bill. Or maybe Joseph. I like simple hardworking names.
