I just joined and I'm really excited about forging steel! I've taken a blacksmithing 101 class and I'm hooked. I even got to take home a few things I made too.  I've joined the local Philip Simmons Blacksmith Guild, and I've cold called a few smiths to ask questions to pick their brains.  It'been an adventure finding everything I need to get started and have my own smithy.  I sourced a nice post vise, a large chunk of steel with great edges that needs some finishing, a couple of decent hammers.  I'll be building a stand for my chunk anvil by the end of the week. I'm still on a mission for tongs and a forge.  I'll at least buy the tongs. They seem pretty hard to make so soon, so in due time.  I'll figure out a forge probably propane. 

I'm glad to be a member of a great group of folks like you all that have a passion for working metals. We all started somewhere. This is my beginning.
