We have Mr James Austin lined up to do a demo this year!

Aug 5 he will do a live demo on the construction of a viking axe. He will show the process starting from a really rough partial preform up to finishing all the smithing. this includes an asymmetrical eye socket weld and also welding in a 1075 bit in the mild steel body. In order to make sure everyone can benefit from this it will not be a hands on class

Aug 6 he will be doing another demo only on Blister steel. (which is an old fashioned way to add carbon to low carbon materials.)  He will also be demonstrating making a blade with blister steel as the core and lower carbon steel for the jacket. This is sure be a big hit with the knife guys!

In order to make sure everyone can benefit these will both be demos only and not hands on. (A typical axe class with him is 3 days and a small group)

More details will be available as we get closer.

I'm posting this for Teenylittlemetalguy, he's organizing the upcoming demo but having a paycheck job, new baby and toddler doesn't nave time for the web. We settled a few things at the March meeting. His post follows.

So we had our meeting today, in case you missed it-

We are still trying to get organized for the August 5th and 6th James Austin demo so more info will be forthcoming, but for now here is a rough outline. Saturday is the axe demo and Sunday is blister steel. Both held at Pats shop in Palmer. Price for both days TOTAL price is $130 for advance payment and $150 for final week sales. No single day sales. Available seats capped at 30. Pat will be able to take credit cards or paypal to reserve a seat as of now. We should have a flyer available by the next meeting which is May 6th.
